Mr. Ghanshyam Bhandari

Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh

Ambassador Mr. Ghanshyam Bhandari assumed his responsibilities as Ambassador of Nepal to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on 31 July 2022.

Prior to this appointment, he was Joint Secretary/Head of Regional Organization Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal from July 2021 to July 2022.

From September 2019 until July 2021, he served as Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN in New York. He worked as Joint Secretary/Head of Europe and America Division at Ministry of Foreign Affairs from June 2017 to September 2019.

Mr. Bhandari served as Deputy Chief of Mission (including Charge d’ Affaires, a.i., from April 2016 to November 2016) at the Mission/Embassy of Nepal to the European Union and the BENELUX Countries in Brussels from September 2015 to May 2017. He was Under Secretary at the United Nations, International Organizations, and International Law Division of the Ministry from May 2014 to September 2015.

He also worked as Second Secretary at Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, from November 2012 to April 2014. As Section Officer, he served at the United Nations, International Organizations, and International Law Division of the Ministry from August 2010 to October 2012. Prior to joining Foreign Service of Nepal, he served as a Lecturer for master’s level at Central Department of English of Tribhuvan University in Katmandu from February 2006 to July 2010.

Mr. Bhandari holds Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) in English Studies and a master’s degree in Political Science, both obtained from Tribhuvan University of Nepal. Born on 11 October 1978 in Gulmi, Nepal, he is married to Ms. Lalita Silwal and they have two children.

The profile of The High Commissioner of India, Dhaka

Pranay Verma assumed the office of the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh on 21 September 2022.

He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1994 and has held diplomatic assignments in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Beijing, Kathmandu, Washington DC and Hanoi.

Before arriving in Dhaka, High Commissioner Verma served as the Ambassador of India to Vietnam since July 2019.

Earlier, he held the position of Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from June 2017 to July 2019; and of Joint Secretary for External Relations at the Department of Atomic Energy in Mumbai from October 2014 to June 2017. He served as Staff Officer to Foreign Secretary and Director in-charge of climate change negotiations during 2009-2010.

Pranay Verma has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master’s degree from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, U.S. Before joining the Indian Foreign Service, he started his professional career as a Graduate Trainee at India’s steel manufacturing company, Tata Steel.
